Backstory: VIETCONG VILLAGE
The Ho Chi Minh Trail wasn’t just a singular path; it was an intricate network used by North Vietnamese forces to infiltrate the South. This route doubled as a supply line, ferrying weapons, sustenance, and gear. Winding through the jungles along the Laos/Cambodia and Vietnam borders, this extensive trail spanned approximately 1,000 kilometres, comprising numerous interconnected segments.
Designed to deceive, the trail included decoy paths aimed at confounding American efforts. At certain points, it sprawled up to 80 kilometres wide. Around 40,000 individuals were believed to maintain its accessibility. The dense jungle cover, with its triple canopy layers, masked activities on the ground, providing exceptional camouflage. In response, the U.S. resorted to defoliants, notably Agent Orange, to strip away the greenery that concealed movements along the trail. While sizable jungle sections succumbed to these chemicals, the trail persisted as a lifeline for the North Vietnamese throughout the conflict in South Vietnam.
Strategic junctures along the trail hosted clearings and settlements fiercely contested for their pivotal role in keeping supply routes operational. The Americans sought to disrupt these locations, while the VC (Viet Cong) fought fervently to maintain their flow.
Both sides regularly dispatched squads to patrol and seize control of these critical points in their ongoing struggle for dominance over the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
Mission Objectives
Teams enter the game zone from opposing directions, engaging in a battle to claim each structure within the compound. Once inside a hut, they defend it against the enemy until the time limit expires—players occupying huts at game end score points for their respective teams.
Yellow boundary ropes delineate the game zone, and straying beyond marks elimination, sending players to the designated red-marked dead zone.
The game consists of two 10-minute rounds separated by a brief interval; players need enough ammunition and pyrotechnics for both rounds as they won’t return to the safe zone between games.
Following alternating roles as Marines and Guerrillas in the game rounds, a more extended break occurs in the safe zone before the subsequent playing zone.
